What are you saying? (Or not saying...)

As believers we know that life and death are in the power of the tongue and everyone that indulges in it eats the fruit thereof (Proverbs 18:21). We get that. We’ve heard it over and over and we understand that speaking negative over anything will be counterintuitive to what we are believing for and will negate our faith. Whoopee. Thank God for that revelation! However, if we are not saying anything bad, what are we saying? It’s great that we are not speaking negative (death) but did you know that isn’t enough for us to see changes in our lives. Not speaking bad is just the first step. It’s just the beginning not the end. The second step and a vital step at that, is speaking LIFE into your situation. Here’s an example. You have the revelation that you should not confess that you are broke. So you refrain from saying things like ‘I can’t afford it…’, ‘I’m skint this month…’, ‘I don’t know how I’m going to pay these bills…’, ‘I’ll always be poor…’ etc. BUT you do not say the opposite either. You do not say ‘I am blessed and highly favoured…’, ‘I am above and not beneath… I will lend to many nations and not borrow…’, ‘My God has, will and is supplying all my needs according to His riches in Glory in Christ Jesus…’, 'Wealth and riches are in my house…’. You are not saying what you want to happen and when nothing happens you may become confused, disappointed and dejected, because you know you have been believing for it. If we do not counter the negative with the positive and replace death with life, we will not see any change. By saying nothing, we may not be causing things to get worse but we are not causing them to get better either. By saying nothing we are leaving a void that is unfilled. The Bible says that God framed the world with His Words so that things which are seen were made by things which do not appear (Hebrew 11:3). We, dear bothers and sisters, are made in God’s image (Genesis 1:26). In fact in Psalm 82:6 it says that we are little gods (small g because we are not God!). That means that whatever He did we can do. If He ‘spoke’ things into existence then we can too. In fact we should do. That is our mandate. In 2 Corinthians 4:13 it says ‘…I believed, and therefore have I spoken; we also believe, and therefore speak’. In Romans 4:17 it says that God ‘…calleth those things which be not as though they were.’ If we are like God and made in His image and if we are to emulate God and if life and death is in the power of our tongue and if we should choose life and blessing (Deuteronomy 30:19), we should be speaking God’s Word into existence. We should be saying things like: ‘My God will supply my need when I need it.’, ‘In the natural it may seem like I have nothing but I know my God is working in the background to restore, renew, reveal, supply, heal…’ or whatever it is you’re believing for. You don’t have to lie about your situation to friends and family. You can admit that things in the natural are not great BUT that you are trusting God and you know that He will remain faithful and has already worked out the answer for you. It’s where you put you ‘but’ that counts! So today, think about anything that has been worrying you or anything that you have been speaking negatively over (including spouses and children, they’re not too far gone and you can bring them back with the power of your words!). Notice what you have been saying and change anything negative or doubtful even things like: ‘I hope things change.’, ‘If it be God’s will I will get healed.’ That’s not faith!!! There should never be an ‘if’ in your prayers if you know what you are praying for is in God’s Word. Also consider, that even if you are not speaking negatively, that you need to start to speak exactly and definitely what you want to happen. You cannot quietly hope that God will come through on your behalf if you don't speak those things that you want into existence! You create with your words just like God did with His. So, you have to open your mouth and start saying it how you are believing it.

For example: ‘My children serve God with their whole hearts.', 'My children are Daniel 1:4 children and they do well in school and in all the affairs of life.', 'God contends with whoever contends with me and He will save my children, therefore my children are saved.', 'My children are taught of the Lord and great is the peace of my children…’. You get the idea. Don’t speak how you feel. Speak the truth. Your circumstances are not the truth. They are facts but they are not the truth. The Word of God is the truth and that is what you need to be speaking continually until you see the manifestation in the natural. The fact that you don’t have a job right now is not the truth. The fact that He has supplied all of your needs, including a job, is the truth! If you struggle with speaking out those things that are not as though they were then read last week’s blog ‘Chewing Bricks - Practical help to put you in the spirit’ which explains exactly what you should do practically, when you feel awkward speaking things out that are contrary to your circumstances. We hope you are blessed by the Word of God today. Remember the Word only works if you work it, so put it to work today. It will not return void! (Isaiah 55:11) Many Blessings, Oceans P.S.
